In my life I have had the good fortune to teach, and to interact with multiple cultures. From these experiences, I learned that education is crucial for understanding different cultures, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities. Our world is shrinking, and more cultures are in contact with one another. By learning new languages young people will have a better understanding of themselves, of new cultures, and more opportunities in life.
As a teacher, I want to be a part of this process. Teaching for me is very rewarding, and an opportunity for me to learn as well as my students. Interacting with students, as a guide and a facilitator, allows me to share my knowledge and learn from the the student as well. This process is rewarding to me because it enriches both parties.
I want to pursue a Masters in Secondary Education at West Virginia University and specialize in Foreign Language Education. This program will give me the opportunity to study different techniques and improve my teaching skills. Also, it will allow me practice through the academic experiences at the university and in local schools. I understand that a Masters degree from West Virginia University is recognized internationally, and this is important for my career. Not only will I be better prepared as a teacher, but I will be able to teach in other nations. At this moment I am not sure as to where or at what level I will teach. I look forward to working with children, but I am considering teaching at the university level as well. My Bachelor degree and Licenciatura are in International Cooperation, and perhaps one day I can work in education at the international level through governmental and non-governmental organizations. Regardless of which direction my future leads me, a Masters degree will open many doors and provide many opportunities.
Please consider me as a candidate to this program. I am eager and excited to work with West Virginia University and the experiencing living in a new culture. Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to our meeting.
